Just finished watching The Post about the publication of The Pentagon Papers in 1971 and am finding it hard to consider a role more patriotic than that of a journalist willing to call out his government when they’ve been deceitful to the American people.
I particularly liked the quote at the end which is a real quote from one of the Supreme Court justices who tried the case against the New York Times:
“In the First Amendment the Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to fulfill its essential role in our democracy. The press was to serve the governed, not the governors.” – Hugo Black
